Redrabbitt TOP 500 REVIEWER5.0 out of 5 stars A SERIES OF NEAR MISSES AND MIRACLES 5.0 out of 5 stars A SERIES OF NEAR MISSES AND MIRACLES

As a huge fan of the writing duo of Ms. Pippa Greathouse and Ms. Ruby Caine, I can strongly attest that they wowed me with the first book in this new series, Rough Edges. I was so engrossed in the story that time literally got away from me. I did not want to stop reading this fascinating, page-turning tale. I loved the characters, the mystery and suspense, the angst, and the sweet romance. I guess what I’m saying, this story hit all the right buttons.
The story begins in 1857, where Joe Castle is concerned because, in the letters from his family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, there is no mention of his father lately. His mother mentions the trouble she has with his sister, Allie, and how she needs to be taken in hand. Back in Philadelphia, Allie is dealing with an overzealous suitor that she has rejected. As things progress and his behavior becomes threatening, Allie should leave and travel by stagecoach to her brother, Joe, in Salem, Oregon Territory.
The story includes the journey by stagecoach, meeting a woman, Bethy, who is also traveling to the same area. Along the journey, they have some scary moments of life and death but eventually arrive. It is the man that Allie will meet when coming into town that ups the ante in this story when she and Nate Winchester come face to face in a battle of independence.
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. It will include dominant men and strong-willed, independent women, but this story’s primary focus will be on Nate and Allie as they become acquaintances, friends, and eventually more. As Allie pushes the envelope, trying to do things her own way, she will incur the ire of not only her brother, Joe but of his best friend, Nate. It will be Nate who shows her the error of her ways and then declares his intentions towards her. But remember that evil—she is being stalked, and now the entire ranch is on full alert. How far will a deranged man be willing to go to have his way?
I loved the chemistry between Allie and Nate—this isn’t an instant love story; it is one that steeps slowly until it is evident that cupid has shot the arrow—but things must slowly progress. When danger affects Allie, it affects the entire ranch. Now that Nate has declared his feelings, has duly corrected her behavior, he is there to protect her and Sophie, along with the rest of the ranch hands.
“Utterly. Unquestionably. Undeniably. And unconditionally, mine.”
The story has just the right mix of edge-of-your-seat mystery, suspense, danger, along with resolution, discipline, and romance. I liked that it was more story with a dominant man who shows the woman he loves his loving discipline, correcting her misbehavior and letting her know she is the most important person in his life. There is no sex until after marriage, and it is mildly explicit of two married people consummating their union.
“His girl. His precious girl. She not only had taught him how to love, but she’d also taught him how to forgive.”
I look forward to more stories in this new series. I am hoping to see Joe and Bethy, and maybe we’ll see Keeney and Sophie. No matter what, I love the journey and the coveted happily ever after ending.

Peggy Moser5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book, Historical Western, With Plenty Of Romance, And, Suspense

What a great book by the authors duo of Pippa Greathouse, and, Ruby Caine. I loved this book, with wonderful characters, and a genius storyline. Alexandra (Allie) leaves her home, and her mother and younger brother, at her mother’s request to carry a “post”, letter, to her older brother, Joe, who lives out west, in Salem, Oregon Territory. Allie travels by stagecoach, and, meets Bethy, another passenger on the stagecoach, who is around the same age as Allie. Their destination is the same, and the two become great friends. The journey is days long, and is fraught with worries for Allie that an unwanted suitor may be following her. As the stagecoach nears their destination, suddenly the horses begin running uncontrolled. Allie opens the passenger door, and climbs up onto the driver’s seat, where she finds the driver incapacitated. Allie tries to hold the driver upright, while trying to bring the runaway horses under control, when a stranger rides up to help stop the stagecoach. The stranger turns out to be Allie’s brother’s best friend. This story really takes off from here. Authors Pippa Greathouse, and, Ruby Caine really know how to spin a tale. I don’t want to give away any more of this story, except to say that the characters are wonderful, and the storyline is genius. I was so caught up in this book, that I just couldn’t put it down, and read it in two days. This is such an enjoyable read that I am glad that it is book 1 of the series, “Rough Edges”, and that book 2 is coming out soon, although book 1 is definitely a stand alone book. I gave this book 5 well deserved stars, and I hope that you will treat yourself to this book.

Christine Paige5.0 out of 5 stars Strong-willed woman meets headstrong cowboy

The writing duo of Ms. Pippa Greathouse and Ms. Ruby Caine weaved an exquisite story that is so engaging I couldn’t put the book down until the end. The story between Allie and Nate grabbed my attention from the first page of their story.
Allie is a strong-willed young lady traveling by coach to meet her brother, Joe who lives in Salem, Oregon in 1857.
Nate is Allie’s brother’s best friend. He is strong dominate man, who is willing to take care of Allie, protect her from her stalker as well as making sure she is safe from her own actions.
This is a slow burn romance with a HEA.
This story is a beautifully written with great character development. I am waiting for the next book in the series. A must-read Book!!!

Deborah A Gile5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Goody!! A New Series to Follow!

This book is a great opening for a series. The characters have depth and issues that lead to new and exciting plot lines. I enjoy stories about this time period and this book explores the early settlement days of North West America. It is a new place, with new rules for the city dwelling Allie. Rough around the edges, Nate is not used to a woman with a mind of her own and the will to back it up. There is danger and sorrow and a scorned beau followed by rescue and forgiveness and the promise of forever… I look forward to the next story out of Salem, Oregon.

Marybeth5.0 out of 5 stars Allie’s Journey Out West

I loved this book. Allie is being sent to her brother who lives in Salem, Oregon Territory. There is a mishap along the way with the stagecoach and she meets Nate, her brother Joe’s best friend. Nate has been intrigued about Allie because of all the stories that he has heard. When he meets her, he decides that she is his. But someone from Allie’s past has followed her and her life is in danger. Allie and Nate have a HEA, but the journey there is fun.

Marcella5.0 out of 5 stars A very capable, strong willed young woman.

Pippa Greathouse and Ruby Caine have teamed up again to write an intriguing, action filled novel. It has wonderful characters such as Alexandra, or Allie, who is not quite the brat her mother insists she is. But it is her mother’s excuse for sending Allie out west to live with her brother Joe, so he might take her in hand. Allie is sad to leave her family home, her brother, and even her mother and the house servants, but quite happy to travel west as she also happy to avoid the unwanted advances of Byron Kennedy. As Allie makes the long trek to Salem, she makes fast friends with another young lady who is also traveling to Salem.
But once Allie arrives, quite dramatically as the reader will discover, in Salem, it is Joe’s friend Nate who quickly positions himself as the one to take Allie in hand if needed. Allie is smitten with Nate herself, and finds she loves the life she is living now. She can now learn to take care of a house, cook, maybe even learn to knit from the widowed owner of the ranch where Joe works. She is happy to show she is a capable young woman. Sometimes she is seen as having too much of an independent nature, much to Nate’s dissatisfaction. This is compounded while she is adjusting to life out west and loving it, when a danger from her past has followed her all the way to Salem. The story becomes quite exciting at this point, as the ranch house Allie is living in holds lots of surprises, and not all the people seem to be who you think they are.
There is some mild non-sexual spanking in this story, and minimal sex. It isn’t needed or missed as the story stands quite strongly on its own merits as an engaging read.
